Despite the scarce cover by the news and media, many of you will have been horrified to see the devastating flooding that hit Colombia and Central America, as a result of the Tropical Storm Eta and Hurricane Iota. Our partners quickly contacted us throughout the day on 22nd November to inform us of communities up to 70% flooded, the death of many and the thousands fighting to survive.
Northern Colombia and some of the Pacific regions were particularly impacted. With partners in both Chocó and around Cartagena, we began to respond to the immediate needs, setting up an appeal to raise funds and, through our partners, we have been able to provide much needed food, aid and relief. A number of our partners have also now begun to rebuild homes and to re-cement flooring that was completely ruined by the floods.
As you may be aware, Colombia is a nation very close to our heart in Links and an area we have been privileged to work in for many years. It holds many personal connections, as it has been home to our CEO Joe and his family. Many friends, family and Links partners are being impacted and are having to deal with the effects of this heartbreaking situation.
Alongside Colombia we are working into a number of other countries, such as Nicaragua and Honduras, that have also been greatly impacted by the flooding. It is such a privilege to know that, because of your faithful support, Links is able to join with so many to bring hope during this difficult time.
If you feel you can give financially towards this appeal, it really would make such a difference.
